Barenboim-Said Akademie

Website Design & Creative Direction

The Barenboim-Said Akademie is a unique music academy steeped in the pedagogical spirit of Edward Said and Daniel Barenboim. Students from the middle east learn to listen to each other and develop their own ideas. The goal is to train excellent musicians who are also curious and well-educated.

Created with the German government as well as the team at Molina Visuals, we created a website that visually connected the utopic vision held by Barenboim and Said. Using the color spectrum as a way to speak to all races, religions, and beliefs the website flows from color to color as an organizational system.

The only color we had to steer clear from was blue. Anything remotely signifying Israel needed to be avoided at all costs for the sake and safety of the potential students and their families.

Design and the implications surrounding visual communication was very apparent within this project.

To keep things clean within all of the color, each section was designated a hue. This allowed color to be used as an organizational system, guiding the user across the website in a clear and aesthetically pleasing way.

The bar of color above each page speaks to where the students came from and where they’re headed: both literally across the website, but maybe more importantly; in their life, studies, and art.
